The first prototype of the Mk3 gantry and spindle carrier assembly was mounted onto an existing Mk2 SheetCNC bed in our workshop last week. The new gantry gives us the facility to do full 3D machining, as well as greatly improved 2.5D capability. First test results are even better than we expected. Stiffness of all three axes has at least doubled but with zero weight penalty. The Z-axis speed has quadrupled but without sacrificing vertical precision. To say we’re pleased with the outcome of all this hard work would be understatement.
